Caos

A course project in illustration: each student was assigned a different artist, and asked to develop an original series drawing on their visual language. The brief required three illustrations - one of an object, one of a person, one of an animal, and a fourth image combining all three.
From the artist I was given I took the linework, the compositional structure, and the intensity of the palette, and turned them toward my own subjects: dancers, a garden, and crocodiles.
The dancers stay unspecified on purpose, I didn't want the figures to carry a story of their own. The garden is the plant world at its most seductive and playful. The crocodiles, on their own, are almost cute, playful animals, comic in outline.
The fourth image, Caos, is where the shift happens. Made during the war with Iran, it pulls the three subjects into a single scene — and inside that composition, the crocodiles stop being cute. They become the missiles in the sky.
